During the latter part of 2011 I moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. Come Hell or Bywater is a portrait of a place–my experience living in a rapidly changing city, while inherently being a part of the very change unfolding before my eyes.
The Bywater neighborhood is situated along the Mississippi River just down river from the French Quarter in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Over the past five or six years New Orleans has seen rapid growth which has brought a lot of new blood to the city. The dynamics of change in a city are inevitable, and the grey area between urban growth and gentrification are in constant flux. Any city, or neighborhood within, pulse and breath–rise and fall in their infrastructure, economy, community, and culture. The Bywater seems to be a microcosm of these concepts, happening at amplified rates.
